Mizzou wrestlers lose first dual match of the season, 17-16

The No. 6 Missouri Tigers suffered their first dual-match loss on Sunday to No. 11 Central Michigan, 17-16. With the loss Missouri falls to 8-1 for the season.

Central Michigan entered Sunday’s match with a lower ranking but with 11 consecutive Mid-American Conference championships. This is Missouri’s first season in the MAC.

Both teams brought nationally ranked wrestlers into the match. Missouri’s No. 1 heavyweight Dom Bradley beat No. 6 Jarod Trice. Central Michigan’s No. 2 Ben Bennett beat No. 6 Mike Larson at 184.

The Tigers’ next matches will be on the road: Eastern Michigan and Northern Illinois on Saturday, Jan. 26 and Northern Iowa on Sunday, Jan. 27. The team’s next home match is the Beauty and the Beast match — a combination event with the Missouri gymnastics team — on Feb. 1 at the Hearnes Center.
