With the University of Missouri on spring break, the softball team did not skip a beat taking two games against the Evansville Aces 4-2 and 7-0 in Columbia on Wednesday.
In Game 1 pitcher Kristin Nottelmann started out shaky with five walks and two hits in the first three innings, but settled down with a 1-2-3 inning in the fourth. She ended up allowing four hits and six walks with four strikeouts in her ninth win of the season.
The Mizzou offense backed Nottelmann up with RBIs by Nicole Hudson, Angela Randazzo, and Brianna Corwin.
The Tigers continued hot hitting in Game 2 with all of their runs coming on home runs by Ashley Fleming, Kelsea Roth, Rachel Hay. Roth and Hay led the team with three RBIs each.
Pitcher Chelsea Thomas improved to 12-3 on the year striking out 11 of the 16 batters she faced. Bailey Erwin came in to relieve Thomas in the fifth inning, earning her first save of the season.
Former Tiger and Boonville native Lisa Simmons came home Wednesday as an assistant coach for the Aces. Simmons went to the World Series three times in her tenure at Mizzou from 2008-2011.
The Tigers end spring break hosting a three-game series against Baylor beginning Friday, March 30 at 6 p.m.
