Leading up to Mizzou’s Dec. 28 Insight Bowl matchup against Iowa, KBIA Sports Extra will provide game-by-game looks back at the Tigers’ 10-2 2010 season.
Looking back
Mizzou entered its Sept. 4 season opener against Illinois with one big question to answer: How would the team respond without suspended running back Derrick Washington?
For the first half, Mizzou didn’t respond well. The Tigers managed just three points as Illinois rode Mikel LeShoure and Nathan Scheelhaase to a 13-3 lead after two quarters.
But Mizzou’s defense—partly in thanks to the four-defensive end “Candy” package—held Illinois out of the end zone in the second half. That opened the door for a Mizzou comeback, which was obliged with touchdown passes to T.J. Moe and Michael Egnew by Blaine Gabbert to key a 23-13 win.
