Behind big days from Paola Ampudia and Julianna Klein, Mizzou moved to 13-7 (5-5) with a 25-18, 25-20, 22-25, 25-15 defeat of Baylor at Hearnes Center Saturday. Ampudia led Mizzou with 23 kills and a .211 hitting percentage while Klein picked up 13 kills on a .244 hitting percentage.

Mizzou easily won the first two sets of the match thanks to some sloppy passing from its opponent. Baylor’s offense never was able to get in system with consistency thanks to poor passing both to and from the Bears’ setters. As a result, Baylor hit just .075 in the first set and .158 in the second.

Mizzou fared much better in the first two sets, hitting .268 and .211, respectively. It looked as if Mizzou wouldn’t be seriously challenged in the match going into the third set, but Baylor was able to scrap together better passing to win its only set of the match.

While Mizzou hit a match-low .118 in the third set, Baylor hit a match-high .244. The Bears also tallied three blocks to Mizzou’s zero in the set, keying the victory.

But as Mizzou’s attack returned in the fourth set, Baylor’s sloppiness did as well. Ampudia racked up six kills in the fourth set alone, just two more than Baylor had as a team in the set.

Baylor hit just .029 in the set while Mizzou hit a match-high .312.

Mizzou also picked up more digs in the match than Baylor, which entered the match leading the Big 12 with an average of just over 18 digs per match. The Tigers tied a season high set Wednesday at Texas A&M with 81 digs while Baylor had 66.
